How To Make Your Patio Enclosure Fit For Use This Winter

backyard patio enclosureAs winter has arrived those long summer days seem like a dim and distant memory. For many people who own patio enclosures they become forgotten about spaces that probably won’t see the light of day until the first glimmers of spring. However it doesn’t have to be this way.

Let’s face it the reason most people choose to get their patio enclosed in the first place is because it gives them another entertaining or functional living space. It brings the outside in (or vice versa) and it’s a place where you can grab a bit of respite from the outside world. So why should this all stop just because it’s a little cooler. Granted you might have to don a few more layers of clothing but  with the right planning it could still be a great usable space.

As the nights draw in and the days get colder, one thing you’re going to need is some form of heating.  For this reason a portable space heater might be a great option. They’re lightweight and being small hey don’t take up too much space. They’re also relatively cost effective. A space heater that uses convection is often the best bet as they take in the air that’s circulating in the room, warm it up, and spit it right back out again.  These type of heaters tend to disperse warm air throughout the entire space. As a result, you don’t have to be sitting on top of it to feel the benefits.

For evening entertaining or use then you’re going to need lighting. A great way to do this at a relatively low cost is to use LED strip lighting. It’s easily installed and doesn’t require any complex wiring. LED lighting also comes in different styles and shades so it can be used to set the mood.  If you’re planning a small get-together with family or friends then you might want to add some LED table decoration lights to add a touch of style and intimacy to the occasion. Alternatively small  table lamps can also provide sufficient lighting to enable you to enjoy your evening.

Bringing the outside in

Patio enclosures are all about bringing the outside indoors so why not embrace this during the winter months by decorating the space with some strategically placed pot plants or the odd smaller palm. It will really transform the space into a winter relaxing haven. In addition why not add some nice outdoor smells in the form of scents such as sandalwood and fir to add the finishing touches. Finally, don’t forget the wildlife. Put out suet balls for the birds and some seeds and nuts for the squirrels. This way you can view them in your outside space when you’re in your ‘outdoor winter room.
