A wardrobe is arguably one of the most important pieces of furniture in a bedroom and a well crafted one can even become the focal point of that room. So if yours is looking more shabby than chic then it might be about time to ‘throw out the old and bring in the new’. That said, buying an elegant wardrobe that adds a touch of style to a room doesn’t come cheap, so if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to a designer wardrobe, then how about replacing the doors instead. With this in mind what options do you have?
So many style choices
The good news (or the bad news, depending upon how you look at it) is that there are a multitude of styles to choose from. You can opt for fielded panel doors that have a raised panel section in the centre. They add a bit of texture to your wardrobe. Alternatively how about ‘V’ joint doors that hinge in the middle? A touch of glass always goes down well in the bedroom so what better way to incorporate it than with a shaker style wardrobe door. Finally a simple plain or flat door can also look elegant when paired with the right décor.
Short on space
If your old wardrobe doors are taking up way to much space when open, then you might want to opt for sliding panel doors. Again they’re relatively easy to fit and with a set of roller bearings at both the top and the bottom, they should glide along effortlessly. Besides, did you know that sliding doors have been around for centuries? In fact there’s evidence of them at the ruins at Pompeii dating back to the first century AD and you know what they say…. What’s good for the Romans, is good enough for us right!’
Wardrobe doors come in a wide range of materials to match both budget and taste. At the cheaper end of the scale you have plain MDF doors that you can add your own stamp to, or wood laminates including maple, birch pine and oak. One of the most popular choices is maple as the rich colour tones tends to lend itself to a bedroom. On the other end of the scale you have wardrobe doors fashioned from materials such as chrome and toughened glass. They can even be made with designs etched into the glass and look incredibly stylish. However style comes at a price and these particular type of wardrobe doors don’t come cheap. That said, if you really want to give your bedroom that all-important wow factor, then they look fabulous in a modern contemporary setting. Finally, for a truly unique look, then how about having your own bespoke wardrobe doors made?
